Museum Library
Location: Mariastraat 36a (1st floor) -> same entrance as for the
Bruges Museum of Archaeology.
Team: librarian: Veronique De Boi / assistants: Martine Lerou & Erika D’Hoore
Collection: the Bruges Museum library has a collection of books and magazines mirroring the museum collections and the times of these collections, as well as extensive information on museum collections and exhibitions from around the world. The overall emphasis lies on art and life in the (late) Middle Ages in Bruges and the Southern Netherlands. The library furthermore collects works on museum science in general. First and foremost, the library plays a supporting role in relation to the museological collections of objects in the museums.
Services:
1/ Consultation library: the museum library shall be
open to the public by appointment ‘during office hours’: from Monday to Friday
from 9 until 12 h and from 14 until 16 h, unless personally agreed otherwise
with the staff. Visitors may not browse among the books themselves, except in
the public part of the library. A card catalogue is available, arranged by
headword (author or first word from the title), classification section or by
keyword. There is also a manual for the card catalogue in the library, but
staff will always be at your disposal to assist you in word and deed. If so
desired, every visitor will be personally accompanied during his or her
consultation. It is only possible to consult books on site. Copying is
allowed, borrowing is not.
2/ Reference function: if required, and if the library does not possess the information or sources you are looking for, the library staff will refer you to other similar institutions in Flanders and Brussels.
